Costs
The one figure that shows what a loan costs
The total amount repayable adds every payment and fee together. Where to find it, and why two offers at the same rate can differ.
Lenders usually list it with the other key figures in an offer, near the loan amount and the monthly payment. It may go by another name, such as total of payments. It counts every payment from first to last, plus any fees charged along the way. If you can't find it, ask the lender before you agree to anything.
Two loans at the same rate can still end at different totals. A longer term adds months of interest, and a fee charged at the start adds to the cost without touching the rate. Compare the totals and the gap shows up, where the rate alone would hide it.
